• Buy the correct toilet paper. RV delivery stores sell special dissolve toilet paper that is made to break easily when used inside a black water tank. This paper is about twice as expensive as plain toilet paper. Even if it does what it's supposed to do, you can save money by purchasing single-layer, septically-safe toilet paper instead.

• Pour the correct Use water chemicals into the toilet. While some RVers will never use anything other than commercially made storage tank deodorisers and chemicals, others swear by a deodorizing system called "The Geo Method". This environmentally friendly method is a recipe that consists of descaling, washing powder and chlorine bleach. Whichever method you choose, never use storage tank chemicals containing formaldehyde, which can damage septic systems.




• Avoid pouring other than human waste into the toilet. Household waste, such as fat, disposable cloths, sanitary ware for households and household detergents, can respond to unpleasant ways with what is kept in a holding tank.

• Keep your black water tank sewage valve shut when hooked up to tools to avoid offending your neighbors with unpleasant odors. This practice will prevent sewage from sitting in your sewer hose.

• Install a black water tank ventilation van. These fans are known as "Venturi" fans. They must be mounted on the roof drain that connects to your black water tank. The fans who look like shark fines, remove waste smell by pulling odors out of the tank and through the holes. Venturi fans work with or without electricity because the wind is what allows the shark-shaped device to rotate.

• Allow both your gray and black water tanks to fill as much as possible before dumping the contents. When you are ready to dispose of waste, dump black water tanks first. Follow the gray water tanks when dumping. This order will allow crying water to wash solids out of the sewer hose. Rinse your black water tank with your RV black water rinsing plug. By connecting a garden hose to this connection, rinse the inside of your black water tank with high pressure water from the dump station.
